Blogger Interview! Secret Doors

Well, this week the blogger I am interviewing is someone I find truly inspiational. Her blog is so beautifully written, as well as being thoughtful and of course fashionable! You seriously have to read it (click on the banner and it’ll take you there!)

Why did you start blogging and where did the name come from?
I started blogging in order to share my experiences in recovery from anorexia, hoping that, just maybe, I could help other girls and spread my story along the way. The name just came to me; Secret Doors is another way to describe all the unknown facets of yourself as a human being, yet to be discovered. This blog is a big self-discovery kind of experience and I think the name Secret Doors is extremely appropriate for the situation.

What one word would you use to describe your blog?
Real. I’m not one to say “look at me, I’m perfect, I never have a bad day”, because that is the farthest from the truth. Hopefully by reading my blog people see that they aren’t weird for not dressing up every day, or that they aren’t a failure for simply feeling fat, or changing their minds every two seconds. My blog is the epitome of a hormonal, REAL girl, not someone pretending to have a flawless life.

What is your favorite thing about the Blogging world?
The support is amazing. There are so many kind, special people out there who will never let you fall without speaking their words of wisdom and are always there to back you up. Relationships built in the blogging world are far more sincere than what one might think. Another thing I love about the blogging world is the inspiration you can get from other bloggers and commenters. Whether it be fashion, photography, recovery, or life in general, there are so many ideas and ways to expand your horizons just by simply taking a look at some blogs that are out there.

Where do you find most of your inspiration?
In every day life. I like to find the beauty or just plain fascination in simple things, then I convert them into ideas for a post. Sometimes my posts aren’t anything too themed and special, but everyone has days like that.

Who is your style icon?
I absolutely love Audrey Hepburn (if you could only see my room and all the art that takes up the walls) and Alexa Chung is another favorite. I like classic with a little bit of an eclectic twist.

If you had a $1 million what would you buy?
Obviously I’d go to NYC and drop some serious cash shopping ;) But I’d probably also take entire my family and friends to some fabulous, exotic destination for a relaxing vacation.

What is your favorite item in your wardrobe?
Skirts, skirts, skirts. Oh how I love them. They are perfect for all seasons, worn with the right accessories, and accentuate my waist perfectly. They are comfy and feminine and I can’t help but feel pretty when I have one on!

Who is your favorite designer?
oh no! there are so many to choose from and so many that inspire me. I guess I would say that I love chanel (who doesn’t), michael kors, marc jacobs, tory burch, and I could go on and on.

What are you essential fashion reads?
I love Blue is in Fashion this Year, Style Scrapbook, and WhoWhatWear :)

Hope you enjoyed it!

Prom.

On Friday I attended my end of Year 11 prom. I enjoyed dancing like an idiot with my friends, and drinking orange juice out of plastic champagne glasses. However it also reminded me of all the reasons I am going to another school!

These photos aren’t the best quality, I cant find my camera and had to borrow my mums.

I am wearing a dress designed and made by myself (I also made the black dress my friend Jess is wearing, she is the far right person that is stood up in the first photo), shoes from New Look, and clutch from Accsessorise (though i don’t think you can see then in these photos.)

I promise that D.I.Y. is coming soon!

Question- What was the best thing about your prom?

Blogger Interview! Vogue Gone Rogue

Welcome to the second installment of my weekly feature- Blogger Interview! This week it is the lovely Kristy from Vouge Gone Rouge, her blog is artisitc and chic! make sure you check it out at http://www.voguegonerogue.com/

Why did you start blogging and where did the name come from?
I started blogging because i wanted my own forum to communicate the ideas i have.  i wanted to find likeminded people to start discussions with.  a blog seemed like the best way to do that.

The name came from a lot of thought and consideration.  I had an idea of what i wanted to convey, it was just a matter of finding the right words.  i came up with “gone rogue” first and couldn’t resist pairing it with vogue for the rhyming aspect.

What one word would you use to describe your blog?
Fun!

What is your favorite thing about the Blogging world?
Having interesting discussions with fellow bloggers.

Where do you find most of your inspiration?
My three favorite places for inspiration are history, philosophy, and sci-fi/fantasy.

Who is your style icon?
I think my perfect style icon would be a combination of natalie portman and megan fox.

If you had a $1 million what would you buy?
A store!

What is your favorite item in your wardrobe?
My new tokidoki bikini and a silver owl pendant necklace i bought this past weekend in liguria.

Who is your favorite designer?
Right now i’m really into australian designer friedrich gray.
What are your essential fashion reads?
Oyster mag, lovesexdance digital magazine, fashiontoast, and the style rookie.

Do you have any D.I.Y. secrets to share?
Be creative and don’t be afraid! DIY is a great way to add something to your wardrobe that is completely unique.

Many thanks to Kristy!

Crossroads

I have a decision to make, and its a scary one (for me at least). Basically, I have thought my whole life that I was going to do History at uni, that was it for me. The subject I wanted knew I was going to do. But recently I have been seriously considering fashion design with marketing or something fashion related… now in an ideal world, I would do both, but that sort of shebang just doesn’t happen. I love making/designing/thinking about fashion and I find myself increasingly falling in love with the fashion world.

So i have to make a decision. Fashion or History.

I just cant choose!! You may be thinking, ‘she is only 16 why is she worrying about it?’ But my post 16 options will have an effect on my options when it comes to choosing unis…

:S

HELP!

P.S. Angst over, coming up next- post a D.I.Y. =]

Blogger Interview! The Girl in the Check Scarf.

This is the first of many (i hope) interviews, with my favorite bloggers from around the blogosphere. And i couldnt think of a better way to start, than with Justine from The Girl in the Check Scarf.  (http://thegirlinthecheckscarf.blogspot.com/) You guys have to check her out she is so lovely and her blog is a delight to read.

How long have you been blogging and where did the name The Girl In The Checked Scarf come from?
I started blogging in late November of last year. I love it! The name of the blog came from me really loving Burberry and wanting a real Burberry Check Scarf. I visit Manhattan allot and I loved seeing chic people wearing Burberry. So it seemed fitting that the name of the blog would resemble my dream of myself, one day being a chic Fashion Industry pro in a Check Scarf.

What would you say is your favorite item in your wardrobe?
That’s a tough one! I really love pearls so I might just say Pearls. But for a piece in my wardrobe, I would say a grey black and white color block dress I got from Forever 21. The second I saw it I knew it was the most perfect thing in the world for me.
What would be the first thing you would buy if you where given a million dollars?
Mulberry’s ‘Alexa’ bag in Oak. I want it so bad!

Who is your favorite designer?
I really loved Alexander McQueen. He had such an amazing mind and it was so hard to see him go. I actually cried. Right now, I would say Pheobe Philo. The work she has done for Celine is just beautiful.
If you could spend a day with anyone in fashion, who would it be?
Christopher Bailey of Burberry! I love what he has done with Burberry. I love reading his interviewe’s and hearing what he has to say. Also, Alexa Chung. Just because I would love to try on everything in her closet.

What are your essential fashion reads?
As far as magazines go,I’m really loving Harpers Bazaar and W and Australian Vogue. For websites, I love WWD.com (because I can’t afford a WWD magazine subscription!), NY mag’s ‘The Cut’ and Fashionista.com. I am also really loving Garance Dore and Vanessa Jackman right now.
Do you have any DIY secrets to share?
If you see something designer that like, just go for it! I also look at http://carboncouture.blogspot.com/. It’s got some great DIY ideas.

Where in the world do you most want to travel to?
Paris! It’s looks so lovely.

Which UK stores to you wish you could have in the US?
More Topshops! I love them but I think we only have one in NY.

Hope you guys enjoyed it!

Sunny Mondays…

Some photos I took myself!

This is the sign that will be flying by our tent at latitude, if your going  and you spot it, drop by and say hi, we shall have ribena in plastic champage glasses to offer you :)

Hat and Dress- H&M (these will be making their way into my rucksack for Latitude i think)

Belt- vintage from a charity shop.

And on the subject of charity shops. i love them. My sister and I went shopping yesterday and bought sososo much. We have discovered that the best charity shops to go to are the ones where the little old ladies work. We found a Davidoff Bag for £6.99, looked it up on the internet, it was worth $1500. no joke.

Hope everyone had a sunny monday :)

I am where I am.

Whilst trying desperately trying (and failing) to find somewhere to go do some fashion design work experience or an internship, that wont cost me a bomb to get to, and that will accept a 16 year old that designs and makes clothes from bed sheets. Sometimes i feel so frustrated to live in York, to me it just seems like the middle of nowhere. Nothing seems to happen here. All the cool stuff is in London.

But then I thought again, York is an beautiful historic city, its small, but still has a really good selection of high street shops, such as a massive Topshop, some lovely boutiques and some amazing vintage shops. Plus it is the site of the British Style Bloggers meet up this August, which I am very exited to attend.

And becuase i want you guys to know how cool I am, its also on the east coast mainline, meaning that a shopping trip to London is only 2 hours away.

I can do big citys when i go to uni.

Be happy with what you’ve got :)
